The rod tube has a durable plastic inner tube, covered in Cordura mesh material, with a zip top fastening. There is a firm sponge buffer inside the zip top lid to help protect the ends of your dismantled rod inside the tube. 

 All measurements are measured to the zip, not to the overall length.  Measured to the zip.  (There is then approximately 1 1/2 inches - 2 inches for the lid).  

Only remaining length is 79 inches.   3 inches in diameter.
